For insurance reasons, you must be registered with either USA Swimming (age-group swimming) or USMS (US Masters Swimming) to be able to swim with us, even on a pay-as-you-go basis. COMSA (Colorado Masters Swimming Association - a registered representative of USMS) registration is available from www.COMSA.org. The registration fee is $40.00 a year for 2010.

There are many benefits to joining COMSA. One of the most important is the offering of secondary accident insurance to all registered swimmers and liability coverage for the club. Registration also includes a subscription to USMS SWIMMER, the official swim magazine for Masters swimmers and COMSA has a quarterly newsletter. The membership also allows you to swim with other registered clubs across the country when travelling.

Weekday mornings . . .
Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 5:30am-7:00am.
Starting June 3rd, morning swimming will be at the Bessemer Pool.

Weekends . . .
Saturday, 7:00am - 9:00am
The next Saturday will be at Bessemer (July 24, 2010). We should be at Pueblo County, but the League Championship for the age-group swimmers will be held at County. For the summer, we will be switching off between Bessemer and County.
Most Saturdays (when we swim at County), we gather for breakfast (or just conversation) at Peppe's after practice.

Even though they are do-it-yourself workouts, you have others to work and talk with while in the pool

lane lines The Nature of our Workouts: The use of the word "workouts" could be a misnomer, especially for anyone who is a first-timer in swimming with a Masters group. We do not just get into the pool and thrash away, though our coaches have certainly been able to help you achieve a supreme state of tiredness if that be your wish. We have had people from the beginning stages of learning to float and breathe properly while in the water. We sometimes devote a workout to just technique drills.

The focus and intensity of workouts depends truly upon the individual and lane group decisions. We utilize all strokes (free, back, breast and fly) but many of us began with the group not being able to use 1 or more of those strokes. So don't be intimidated by the need to learn. Learning is the pleasure we seek to cultivate.

For new folks there is also getting to learn the jargon of swim workouts. Those of us who did not do age-group swimming as kids had to learn this. Don't worry. It becomes comprehensibleafter just a short time.
